Parent category
[edit]Why is this article in both Category:American writers of Italian descent and its parent Category:American people of Italian descent? WP:PARENTCAT says "an article should be categorised under the most specific branch in the category tree possible, without duplication in parent categories above it", so shouldn't this article only be in the more specific child category? - I think there's some mess in the categories on this article but I think to this WP:DUPCAT applies. Onikaburgers (talk) 16:44, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- I ask because I had reverted the addition of the parent cat here [1] but then got reverted with no comment by an anonymous editor here [2]. I don't completely understand how categories work and didn't want to edit war over it. If you're pretty sure it doesn't belong in the parent maybe we could remove it again? GA-RT-22 (talk) 18:33, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- I think the categories are non-diffusing and both should stay, as per WP:DUPCAT. Though not sure about other categories on this article I wanted to check, just didn't have time capacity for it yet. Any other that stand out to you as incorrect? Onikaburgers (talk) 18:02, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see how they're non-diffusing and yet not in the non-diffusing subcategory. But I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks. GA-RT-22 (talk) 19:42, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
